Polarized Sunglasses - an easy way to tell if they are real

Once you've gone polarized, you never go back. For most this statement is true. The gain in optical clarity in reduction of glare make polarized lenses the sunglasses of choice for so many people. You can even find polarized bifocal sunglasses for reading, boating, flying, driving, or simply enjoying an afternoon espresso at the local cafe.

Polarized lenses started as a benefit to fishers, the unique glare reduction allowed them to see right through the water which gave them an advantage. Now they are wildly popular for most anybody who spends any time out in the sun. But with all the styles you see that claim they have polarized lenses, is there an easy way to tell if they truly are?

You bet there is!

Unfortunately for this method you do need two lenses, or two pairs of glasses. Polarized lenses work by blocking out interior reflections with opaque lines that are not noticeable with the naked eye. However if you take two polarized lenses and look through both of them, while rotating one of the lenses you will notice that everything will go black and you won't be able to see through them anymore.

To say it another way, hold up both lenses and look through them. Rotate one of the lenses 90 degrees. Once you do this you will not be able to see through the two lenses. If you still can see through, one of the lenses is not polarized. It's that simple.
